Please change the appearance of the Dwarfs

Hello, I'm from Russia I want to express my opinion and ask you to change the appearance of the Dwarf Race (I will continue to write in Russian)

Well, besides the translator calling them gnomes, it translates well.

And I agree! The a1 dwarves look shit. I know, unique art style and their own designs and the likes, but honestly? I don't care 🤷 I want dwarves I will recognise within any distance (except ultra big donstance cuz obvious reasons) and these versions of them are an insult to dwarves. Ppl constantly arguing there will be body modification options, but looking at the dwarves, they don't even look dwarven on default. This is fine for gnomes or halflings, but dwarves? Nah, that's just an insult xP

Reinventing the wheel doesn't work for games. If you try to do it you are just taking a shotgun and shooting yourself in the foot.

Intrepid wants the mountain dwarves to be dwarves? Then follow the stereotypes. They are there for a reason, they are liked 👍

    Hello Mangust747,

Please consider writing exclusively in english, since for now this is part of the forum's rules :)
Otherwise a wild Toast may appear and close your thread!

Since you're a LOTR fan I'll forgive you as for myself <3

Here's what google translate says about the russian part of our friend's post :
In short, by the title of the topic, you can understand what I am going to write about here.

In general, I am a big fan of the race of dwarves, namely the dwarves from the movie "The Lord of the Rings", I was upset how your dwarves look here, they are "Koreans" and this is not only my opinion, although now I speak for myself.

I know, that you only had alpha 1, and you still have many improvements ahead, but please, if you can somehow change them (dwarves) and make them ferocious and harsh dwarves, like in The Lord of the Rings, I assure you, this will greatly improve the desire to play for this race for many people, including me.

I am looking forward to your game. I greet all the guys from Russia, unsubscribe [Should have been "Like" I guess?], guys, if you agree with my opinion, I hope this appeal will be noticed!

I hope the translator has translated it well. [Yeah me too buddy!]

I don't know about Korean dwarves-style but your concern is globally shared within the community. We've had a similar thread not long ago about the exact same subject (except pour the Korean part :) ), check it out here : https://forums.ashesofcreation.com/discussion/50509/dwarven-body-proportions

  • Thank you all very much for the answers, the most important thing is that people support me and are in solidarity with my opinion, so it hooked not only me, I'm glad. The main thing is that the developers should see it and pay attention to this topic. And yes, your translator sucks translating into Russian, but you can understand it)

Yeah, we were meant to see beefier models. That's not what ppl want. Being beefier is just 1 out of 4 things

I still don't understand English, there's no point in watching, let's hope that Stephen will pay attention to the dwarf race and by the release we will see decent, strong and harsh dwarves of mountain cities
  • yep i don't think anyone is a fan of the dwarves in their current state..i suspect intrepid will change them up in the future along with the other races.. if not then well they're gonna have a race with like 10 players

I really hate the current Dwarfs. They actually get worst the more you look at them.

Here is a dwarf from return of reckoning, I'd recommend basing the size/frame of a dwarf on this, ofc adding your own spin to the aethetics of it. At the moment their sizing is an issue for many players.

I get the square dwarf love, but I really preffer the top heavy trapezoid model personally. Big beefy arms and wide shoulders but slightly less wide hips proportional to the shoulders. I hope the sliders give the option to get close to this on Dunir, but still starts from top heavy trapezoid.

My reasoning for top heavy trapezoid is because female Dunir should probably have wider hips for Dunir's big ass heads to come out safely. But the square stack model would deaccentuate this gender difference to a degree between the two. You could do square for males and bottom heavy trapezoid for females if you really want the base dunir to be square. If you do that though it would make certain armor trading mechanics where racial armors are wearable by other races basically impossible with Intrepid's resources. It would also look jank (totally my personal opinion.)

The square stack model was probably built with Tolkien dwarves in mind where there wasn't a need to distinguish between male and female dwarves as much.

From a recent interview Steven said that they will be bringing out orcs towards the end of the year, and I quote, "once you do see them though, we will have begun pretty aggressively production on all of the races at that phase." So that is about the time we will start to see major race attention.

буду надеятся на это, раз Стивен говорит что мнение игроков ему важно, а как я уже понял не только мне одному не нравятся такие дворфы

I will hope so, since Stephen says that the opinion of the players is important to him, but as I already understood, not only I alone do not like such dwarves

Yeah man here's hoping they can give us some cool looking dwarves.

  • I hope they don't start making their boots as big as their chest like WOW did. Or the big bellies it seemed the Warhammer dwarves had.
  • Also hoping they make the dwarves more stereotypical in appearance (or give us the option to do so using sliders). Fingers crossed for the voice acting, I was never a fan of the American accented dwarves on Dragon Age, a dwarf should definitely have the right accent! :)

I'm not sure on the accent but I loved their tone of voice in DA
  • Everyone has their idea of what Dwarfs look like. Intrepid has their own design ideas. Since they are making the game, let them use their idea.

Yeah and they have asked for feedback for their million dollar game so that they didn't waste said money. I guess we can mark you down as liking the current dwarf features and body structure?

Really no need to have an attitude. These forums are for ideas and feedback, the devs even ask us for our insight. These are just opinions and ideas from fellow gamers, relax.

  • Definitely! While watching some tests from the alpha the dwarven modells didn’t really appeal to me as well.
However I know everyone has another point of view.
