I would have a freehold for a farm. My toon will use leather armour. Though I hope I can also get leather from the wild. I'm a gatherer by trade and I feel I might also place a tavern if the location was ripe. I'm not too clued on the economic side because I've only theory crafted my action side.
I mean, if even just another person in your group (or ideally 2 people) share your desire for a tavern-like thing - you'd just need to find a proper place for it and for one of them to be a citizen there. You'd still have your farm there, someone else could have processing for your farm (though farming is processing so you'd be a processer if you want a farm) and you could get a citizenship in your military node through an appartment.

This is why I say that freeholds are a party thing. And if your party is wealthy enough, you could have a whole damn industry :D

What a wonderful world you got imagined for the game. When in reality there will be thousands of people on your server dropping hundreds to thousands of dollars on in game gold a bidding them out. I feel worst for the guilds, setting so much up and trying so hard to deck all their officers out with some sweet freeholds.

Just to lose a bid against some team of Indonesians farming 12 hours a day cause it's the only job they can get to sustain their family or have to live back out in the village. Real story, made a great friend in WoW Classic who was a self made farmer who would run me through dungeons in his spare time for free.

You think gamers get sweaty when in these top elite guilds, try Indonesians where they get the choice between farming like a slave or living out in the jungle with leopards.

The biggest problem with using gold, is that mostly this means that the sky is the limit. And, gold tends to beget gold. So as times pass, very few people that didn't join early will be able to join in on the competition. Even hardcore players that join 2-3 years in may be so far behind that they will never be able to even try for a freehold. Because 3 years later, 3 years have passed for the other guys too.
So from that perspective, almost any other system or resource that has some kind of soft or hard cap on it will probably be better in the long run, even if it is likely they too favour larger groups of people or guilds over solo players.

EDIT: Replaced money with gold to make sure it's clear I'm taking about ingame currency

We get it dude. You've said it now many times in many posts.

The indonesians. They're coming for Ashes. It's either farm ashes or eat dirt in the jungle for them. No one is safe. Not even the big guilds. Got it.

And you want FHs to be distributed in a similar manner as mayors are elected. Got it.

    :D Well someone gets it.

It seems like so many people want freeholds like REALLY friggin bad. I've never seen people so desperate about something in an MMO, it's actually weird. Well.. maybe apart from like DST in WoW BC.

I want to have one, but if I can't, at least I want the system to succeed and other people to have any kind of shot at them. If the community doesn't raise their voices on this early, while they're asking for feedback, It's not a joke, anyone whos been deep into MMOs and gotten personal with people knows RMT is a seriously massive issue. Most people who are going to be playing AoC are casuals with full time jobs and they will want that freehold too, and those people justify to themselves very easily breaking the ToS and just purchasing some gold online for it. They can't grind for it, they have a real job.

Diablo Immortal despite being considered a pretty poor quality game, made record profits, because it was packed with internal P2W. People love to spend money on game progression, especially on limited open world housing in a popular MMO that take monumental effort to purchase normally, that works well and looks fantastic, ESPECIALLY when everyone else wants one too.

Those people in Diablo Immortal spend thousands of dollars just to get ahead of other people. That's why hardcore P2W games encourage the shrimp so that they feed the whales. That's why so many rich people IRL are rich, cause it makes them feel better than others, like they're accomplishing more or more important. What better way than have something everyone else wants AND they want.

This isn't wild speculation or a conspiracy, this is regular stuff man. Tropes of a quarter of movies in existence, those people really exist, and they're not rare.

One of my great friends in Indonesia gets paid 4$ per 12 hours of work to sit and farm gold in games, and that's a somewhat decent pay for his area. He's a regular player in those games just farming like the rest of us. He gives his gold to people just like you give gold to your friend or guildy. There is no way to stop them.

I know people don't like to address this for whatever reason I don't understand, but if you like freeholds and you'd like to try and get one, or want to see other people who work hard have a shot at getting one, please let your voice be heard. I think Intrepid put so much work into freeholds and I think the players see that and want to be a part of it. Lets make sure we or they can do that.
