I feel like this is where node wars plus disputes will be fostered. If a vassal node feels like they’re being stepped on by the parent node wouldn’t they just try to overthrow it or move elsewhere to contest that parent node in order to become a higher tier node.

I think if you add too much complacency it won’t breed enough conflict dampening the whole node siege experience in general. Also doesn’t a node have a cap on how many people can apply for citizenship?

Also in terms of choosing a node maybe a vassal node is closer to a farming grounds you prefer than said parent node meaning it would benefit you better in crafting or transport. Also I can see high tier nodes being packed with lots of players so you’ll have diminished returns from farming around that node or being able to participate in content if it’s clustered out by bigger guilds or alliances.

I hope nodes have a middle ground of complacency and discontent for vassalage. If a node becoming a vassal means every opportunity they will betray the parent so they can rise up the system will become dull, and players will always resort to assuming vassals are enemies. It should be the parent's job to ensure a fine line of incentives to stay loyal but also enough of a heavy hand to ensure tribute is paid.

Hell I believe there should be a secret alliance ability where vassals can pledge loyalty to the opposite side in exchange for better benefits and an actual faction swap during battle, rather than the citizens being forced to ally with the citizens of the parent node. It would open up ground for politics which could be fun.

Regarding citizenship I think you are right about the cap, but what is to stop a citizen from the parent to go to the vassal and farm with no issue? If there is citizen locked content for vassals that would make more sense, but besides the citizen cap I see no reason to become a citizen of a vassal because it doesn't offer anything more than the parent would.

I think you’ve just got to make the right choice at the right time in terms of vassalage. I don’t think a parent node can enforce you into servitude that’s why you’ll have node wars or sieges in contestation. However it’s the parent nodes responsibility to provide the benefits in order to expand their influence, and you should be able to choose where the benefits are best in terms of alignment.

I see there being somewhat of a lock out in terms of the parent nodes farming in the form of big guilds or alliances making that node their home. The guilds or alliances that contribute to the node or manage to gain citizenship before the cap will be the dominating force. Those such guilds or alliances will be heavily farming the area or resources as part of that nodes progression, defences and influence I can even see them bullzoing big ZOI events or dungeons locking out smaller guilds or foreigners.

What happens when you align with a parent node but go to a parent node as a vassal to farm their resources, and then what if someone from the parent nodes main guild or alliance takes the hump. If they don’t like your farming their resources surely this will cause some issues with the owner or current mayor of the node as it’s in their best interest to keep those guilds or alliances happy as they provide safety plus their contributions to that node.

I’m also looking forwards to see how castle sieges for the throne will impact the ZOI over certain nodes what authority they will have and how it will impact that node plus their allegiance. Heavy is the crown or as the saying goes will your people love you or will you become a tyrant and be overthrown.

However it all does make me excited as I can’t wait to join a mercenary guild or start my own and get into lots of PvP, wars and politics.

    Depends.

If it's just me or a small guild/group, I'd say a tropical island. It likely won't have the most amazing loot, but isolation can provide safety/less people trying to take you out, and let you work and grow, and likely has access to a lot of staples for building a society.

Defensible in general is good, but I suspect things like mountains and forests won't provided as much as simple DISTANCE and isolation from others.

In general, remoteness from starting spawn zones/regions. Probably one of the first things I'll do when I get into this game is just take off and get as far as I can before I start trying to build up a little remote node somewhere.

As for type...hm, not really sure. I need to read up more on those, and I don't ever expect to live in a fully built up one, so the tier 2-4 perks are what I'm more interested in. That said, the one that allows teleportation sounds the most outright useful for efficiency and logistics.
  • RenathrasRenathras Member, Alpha Two
Oh, as for type...all things being equal, either forest or plains. Plains are just one of my favorite types of geography in general, possibly with a hill somewhere for the actual town to be built on top of.

Aside for any Eve fans: I wonder what the first major trade hubs to appear will be.

I suspect the guy (Texas?) who said near the Human starting area is correct and there will be something akin to Amarr there (for those that don't know Eve, one of the 4 starting areas just happened to end up being one of the main game trading hubs!), with some scattered around near the other portals and then along routes that connect them, which is how we see a lot of the main trade hubs in Eve.

The original mega-hub was at a nexus connecting all four capitals/starting areas, but this was seen as TOO good (and crowded!), so they cut those jumpgate links to make it a random "normal" sector, and its popularity waned into nothingness. Thus did the four regional hubs develop (of which the Caldari one became the biggest, and the Amarrian capitol the second biggest and also the first one that many players will encounter just because it happens to be the main hub for one of the main and for a while popular starting areas), with the Galente and Minmatar ones being smaller/lower volume and more regional major areas.

But then there are also the smaller local hubs on the edges of lawless space that get a lot of traffic (small being a relative term in this sense), some of which are pretty respectable in size and development, just not on the level of the 3 regional main hubs or the megahub in Caldari space (don't remember the name, been too long, but it's definitely the "first among non-equals", and by quite a measure, the only system that is CONSISTENTLY at the population limit for people to jump into it, especially during peak hours, etc).

It will be interesting to see if such things develop in Ashes. Given the ability to siege nodes, they can be attacked, but a lot of people might take the position of leaving the main one's alone if they're sufficiently beneficial to lots of players, even ones not in the main controlling guilds.

I don't get how everyone will pick their biome but then join a guild that's not geographically based in their area. In a world with basically no fast travel.

It seems like you need to pick the guild first.

Why not go to the biome you like, and start playing around the area. Eventually you will know the guilds in the area and pick a guild who has stake in said node? Players can pick their biome first and wait to see guilds that are based in their area.

Why do we have to pick a biome at all? Am going to go where i feel like and do what I feel like picking up groups as i go.

Its going to get boring fast if all you do is hang out in one biome. Going the nomad life if the fuild conplains that am not henging out am going to leave.

Sure i will travel to a location for a raid or what ever, but am going to try to get friends in a sea guild a raid guild, but am going to join a PvP guild so. Why ether or?

I am for sure going for military and the node on top of the highest mountain.
I would like to see people try to siege it ^^

I am really hyped for the PvP aspect of the game and electing a mayor with duels sounds rad af

The Game looks fantastic even without high Settings. But on high Settings, it blows the lit from the barrel with the force of a raging Inferno. ^.^

That Tower is the abandoned Home of an Alchemist in the Game which we need to rescue so we can have him in our Base and make Potions and the likes with him. :sunglasses:

    Azherae wrote: »

There is indeed a looooonnnnng Coast-Line in the South of the Game -> but the Game has not yet "Water" in a fluid Form in itself.

So the Coast where the Sea and Ocean should be in the most South Location in the Game -> is currently filled with a thing called "Miasma" -> and the most rancid, annoying form of it.

" Red Miasma " in a solid State -> which kills You in Seconds when You touch it.

I personally hope the Studio and Company " Keen Games " will replace the disgusting, red Carpet of Miasma in the South of the Map with "fluid Water" once they did their thing of wanting to put it finally into the Game. ;) .

Water is in their Roadmap. But i am afraid it won't make into the Game in it's fluid Form in 2024 still.

Water is now since the November 5 Update in the Game as "Ice and Snow" - so to say -> "in a form" it is truly already in the Game now. (lol)

Believe me, Azherae. So many Players - me included - wait until we can finally have a "Block" to set like in Minecraft - to make our own Rivers, Lakes - and so on. ;)

And i personally hope very strongly -> that this UGLY, glowing, red "Ocean of solid Miasma" in the South of the Map will finally vanish. It makes my Skin crawl at times. :disappointed: .

I made a handful of Screenshots for You on the fly just now,
    in Case You don't know the World of Enshrouded so well, Azherae. ;) . 🫡 . 🫡 . 🫡

Behold !! You should open ALL of them - directly, for Maximum Size.

    This is the Roadmap.

    u0n1ws15b76q.jpg

They plan Water in a fluid form with a Water Engine, i think.
Sadly they seem to not manage it anymore in 2024.

    02n0rdwlm71v.jpg

So i made a few Screenshots. You can see the (ugly) glowing "Red Miasma Ocean" really well at Night - but during Daytime the "Shroud" which gives the Game it's iconic Name - covers it perfectly.

    q6x4n0efsk7n.jpg

The Edge of the World is also quite visible. I hope they will let the Ocean be wAAAAAAAAAAAY further into the Distance and/or be able to hide the Edge of the World completely there.

The Game has a modern Engine i think. It should be possible. ;)

So here i fly closer to the Direction of the first Screenshot using my Glider. Gliders are one of the best Game Mechanics ever.

You should be able to see the Edges way more clearly of where there is this UUUGLY, red and solid Miasma where normally Water would run into the Ocean from Rivers and Waterfalls and so on.

    yk037syvpfwk.jpg

Very close at the tiny Farm, Settlement, Estate - whatever, now. You can clearly see the solid Edge of the red Miasma here.
The Game is still in Early Access. So not really and fully finished. Like so many Games these Days. ;)

    0dyuktem9e60.jpg

If there would be (fluid) Water where the red Miasma is now - this here would of Course not be possible. ;)
I hate this disgusting, solid Miasma the same as it hates all Player Life ingame.

Hopefully dear Keen Games will replace many Places with the red Miasma completely with fluid Water. The World of Enshrouded is way to beautiful to stay THIS ugly in some Places. ;)

    473po8ntsqei.jpg

Same Place and Location as in the Screenshot above this one. But from another Angle.
Cursed be the red, solid Miasma.

I want my beautiful, beautiful Coast Line. same as You. ;)

I'm just too 'woke' to want to read most of your takes on stuff on the first pass through a post, it can distract me from what I consider to be the important aspects of a discussion.

Rest assured that if you say something that someone else quotes, I'll read it, or my parser will pick it up. I just don't have time to be 'doomscrolling' through your 'political' stuff. Nothing 'against' you beyond ideology difference overall. I don't find direct conversation with you to be an issue or anything.

As for the visuals you shared, I agree that they're not very appealing to me right now, so I'm not as likely to track that game, but my group has a 'system' for that, so I'll poke the appropriate person who won't be put off by the current state of the game or visuals and hope that the gameplay doesn't discourage them.

There are definitely way too many developers who are falling into the same trap as back when sprite gaming became well-understood, all those decades ago.

Thankfully, Intrepid seems to have clawed their way back out of that trap thanks to Steven's absolute commitment (and deep pockets).

Hopefully both Enshrouded and Ashes will make it to the finish line, and I thank you for the time you put into the screenshots.

I am in the guildless Guild so to say, lol. But i won't give up. I will find my fitting Guild "one Day".

Military or Scientific is a solid combo. Military nodes bring the Bounty Hunter system and PvP-focused perks, while Scientific nodes give access to their teleport network and unique progression benefits. For the “Asian” look, remember that’s tied to the dominant race’s architecture in the node, not the biome itself, so you could get that style even in a swamp or coastal area if the right race is in control. And being near the coast is definitely great for trade route PvP, since both caravans and merchant ships create consistent, high-value conflict opportunities.

What about Icy, snowy Mountains ? ;) Or dry, wasteland-like Deserts ? ;)

I like Mongolian and Tibetan steppes, but too snowy is kinda depressing to me, i like some arid stuff too
PvE means: A handful of coins and a bag of boredom.
