Kids. And I don't mean NPC kids, but legit players who are in or before puberty.
I PARTIALLY have to stand up for the little ones because I myself hate squeakers but have met quite a few good players in several different games that were squeakers. If you hear one of them say "I know I'm a squeaker but please don't lump me with the rest." Try to give them a chance at least.

With that said I have to turn into a hypocrite here and say about half the squeakers I meet are annoying as fuck.
    Age doesn't really matter.
I've meet 12 year olds who are more mature than some adults I've met so.

Young people are still green and innocent. It is the adults that learned and adapted to toxic behavior and are being great examples for younger generations.

    /sarcam off
Great example was obviously a joke.
  • DPS meters and mods in general.  Luckily they have already said no to both.

When Intrepid Studio firmly stated that there will no DPS meters?
  • @Dolphin was during a livestream in response to a question about how they planned to deal with elitist behavior. No gearscore, dps meters. They didn't answer about linkable achievements. The no mods answer was in response to people wanting them to open the API up to make their own third party programs. I'm sure one of the quotemasters can provide you with the specific links.
  • In the Livestream 2017/07/28 it's been only said that:

[23:19] Will the character screen be inspected by others?

    1. Check out gear score??
    2. May be something players can opt into
    3. Since its a PVP game want players to learn Visual cues instead.
    4. Don’t want ppl to see gearscore due to elitism in dungeon groups
There's nothing said about DPS meters, or even implied according to the Q/A & Discord notes.
  • Has anyone said traps?

This quote is pretty much enough to close the "linkable elitism" topic, as it won't happen.
  • DPS meters would require add-ons no? I'm pretty much a moron when it comes to computer stuff. So, other than them building in a DPS meter. It's pretty much confirmed that DPS meters won't be a think, as add-ons aren't allowed.

They can build one in their own engine, and while they have ruled out elitist tools, since they haven't specifically mentioned dps meters you still have those people posting on here thinking they may get them. I personally don't want to see any of that crap that allows people to dictate builds and rotations so they can squeeze 2 percent more out of a boss mechanic. No matter which way they go, one group is going to be unhappy, just depends on which side of the coin flip they land on.
  • Holy water it makes me feel ill so I would have to pass on that

As the quote also doesn't indicate, no one said  DPS/Gearscore/Linkable Elitism "won't happen", as they're willing to create "Option." in every case.

Not to mention, you can create a criteria from everything. Even level itself is a criteria. People can form their party group with 90 lvl players to a 80lvl dungeon, thinking they'll raid and finish it faster. So what, Intrepid Studio shall remove levels? I've played games with no DPS meter at all, and this indeed happened. It's not like 80lvls cannot do it, but they don't want to run the dungeon slow. Or people can put criteria around skills, like if you are cleric and doesnot have X skill to support the team, you gone. Happened to the supporter characters in an asian MMORPG I've played, society literally forced us to unlock a skill that some supporters didn't want to. So what would be then, should they erase particular classes and skills? I've also suffered from elitists group in many mmorpgs, but that doesn't mean their freedom of choice should be taken away for the newbies. If it's not letting this to be happenning, then the game should be easy, which ironically every person disagrees including the "I don't want No DPS meter" people.
  • Yes, people will try to make requirements out of anything. However, Lv90 players grinding a Lv80 dungeon.. I feel sorry for them.

I don't think I need to repeat myself and my opinion, it's all in that other topic.

Haven't you played a game where the highest level dungeon is not at the level cap, like there was no dungeon above 80lvl, so they had to rerun the same dungeon to farm gold and get goods to sell, and kick the new 80 level players in order to finish the dungeon faster and farm the goods. You're so not thinking this through... or you really didn't experience those. And it's kinda shallow that you change the phrase from "linkable elitism" to "making requirements" to describe the circumstance.

If all the game offered level 80+ characters was a dungeon to raid that game had many other issues. I, and many others, are hoping Ashes can turn the tide on those scenarios.

    > I don't want Ashes to have only raid type content for max level players.

As for the recent criteria that "could" exist without a DPS meter, I'm not seeing why it wouldn't exist with one. Are you suggesting that if IS gives players a DPS than that would be the only requirement "elitist" use?

God dammit my gut hurts from laughing so hard. I blame you for my injuries, now we must hold a summit to discuss this but you must be muted for the whole thing and listen to me

The things that I don't want to see are :

Ridiculous grinding. I just quit FFxiv for this. FFxiv is a beautiful but has no balance for grinding.

Cash grab cons. Scheming tactics just to generate cash. WoW and rift were horrendous for this. One expansion WoW generated the need to server transfer just to progress. Rift had too many to name.

Bad support in game. FFxiv support for English speaking players is terrible.

Latency. latency concerns is a deal breaker for many players.

Compulsory pvp. Creating schemes that enforce PVP play to progress. PVP should be a voluntary thing. I don't want it to be come a necessary grind.

Server transfer fees. People transfer servers mostly because of game concerns. Server transfer fees are just a fine for being in the wrong place at the right time.

  • PVP ganking by max level players in low level zones.
  • PvE mob stealing by max level players in low level zones.
  • i know people won't agree with this but i do hope they kinda understand.

i don't want to see political correctness to the point you're afraid to say anything at all in chat. there's enough people being attacked in real life without having that happen here, and it goes on all walks of life.

at the same time, i don't want to see an ignorant community. just blocking the person that's offensive isn't good enough, because it does filter through all players. i don't believe we should be censored, but i certainly don't believe we should only rely on devs and ignore the issues at hand. a community that stands for something is always better, so no censorship, and community policing done by community. just because we aren't silenced, doesn't mean we have to tolerate it as well.

allowing people to talk freely can make interesting conversations, and we can make sure that players don't just become toxic and abuse everyone ourselves.
  • That comment triggered me. aoc should be a safe space for all the special snowflakes.
  • Are the people being attacked in real life the people who are calling others names or the people who are being called names?
  • I despair at the thought of boring mounts. How many games have movement-only based mounts that people pretty much ride 24/7 except while in combat just to move from place to place, and you have such a blob of big horses around a merchant that you wonder if this is the stable or the tavern? I really hope that mounts feel more real in this game. Guild Wars 2 did this well, where mounts had drastically different movement abilities, but they still feel old after a while. I don't expect a mount like horses from Breath of the Wild, but it's still a good thing to pull from. Give me some mounts with personality, that you can feed and care for, that have tons of little animations to go with them. Heck, maybe a horse will nudge its owner if they go afk in front of it, give it a good looking gait, make it look real. I am so sick of games that have motorcycle horses(Revelations Online is a good example >.> It's funny. Look it up.) I could scream. I know that one shouldn't expect really good AI in an MMO since so much is going on, but can horses and other mounts PLEASE have some kind of mechanism to make them more interesting, to make it so you want to play/be with them instead of just riding them place to place, point A to point B.

Rng in crafting. Or at least the promise of it going away at higher levels.

Hand holding mechanics past newbie locations.

Nerfing any player skills/abilities that are not bugged or game breaking. In reality, imbalance promotes innovation and progress. I would like to see imbalance approached in a positive manner, with in game solutions rather than just editing abilities. Stun locks countered by an item invented, or new skill developed, rather than just killing the skills effectiveness.

Instant Fast travel. I like the idea of buying passage on a caravan and not having to walk yourself, but it should still take time. During such a trip you could craft, or socialize, etc.

Absolute Safe zones. There should be safe locations, with guards and other measures in place to keep people honest, but if someone were to take sufficient steps it should be possible to attack, kill, or Rob anyone, in any location... With the possible exception of an inn or personal or guild housing... although... no... I'd rather it still be possible, just exponentially harder to accomplish and much harder to survive. I love the presence of risk and danger. The less civilized the location, the more risk, but greater possible rewards.

Dropped loot being better than highest possible level of crafted gear.

I'm sure there's more, but that's what I have for now.
  • Oh yeah, I also do not want to see horse head mask cosmetics, and any kind of cosmetics that are totally out of place.

The topic says one, but I'm seeing multiple things in the answers.

    oh well.

I, absolutely, do not want, to be called "the chosen one" or anything similar, by npcs.

I will smack the tool that does.
