  • After the combat update video I upgraded my KS package to Braver of Worlds. Thankfully they left the door open to KS Backers.

I'd be fine with a middle ground for any early adopters to have a option for a more than normal discounted payment plan.

    Can someone answer me this:
I have bought a few KS packages for me and my mates at the start, with lifetime subscription. - though my mates have bolted, and I am here with my Lifetime package, because I still wish to play the game, until it gets too stressful . -
So I intend to create a totally new email account only for my AoC package, and I will only register that address at my.com. BUT I don't want to give my Bank Account info to My.com. Theoretically I don't need to pay them, because I have lifetime subscription, and I won't buy any cosmetics from them.
Can I still play the game or will I be needed to hand over the info in order to be able to play the game?
  • So lucky I got an early bird Braver of Worlds on KS.  I originally pledged a lower package but that lifetime sub was too tempting.

If they offer lifetime subs again I think people will riot.  It was bad enough they did so in the summer crowd funding, the only way they narrowly kept their promise of having it “KS exclusive” was in charging more.

I doubt they will though.  Besides the fact that Steven said explicitly they won’t, it’s also because they lose money on them.  Most MMOs don’t offer lifetime subs because it is bad business.  The point of subscriptions is that it provides a steady cash flow to pay for maintenance and development.  When the game is being prepared for release you need lots of cash right away to fund it, so you might offer lifetime subs for a limited time.  But offering them later means losing that steady stream of money.  I don’t see it happening.

Good points here. I'm sure even those on lifetime subs will support the game with cash shop purchases and merchandise of various kinds. It's up to Intrepid to keep creating great items and such (cosmetic only ofc).

Well I was planning to, but since my.com got the EU publishing deal, I won't be buying anything anymore.
I have the leader of men pack, and have bought some cosmetics, pets, mounts at every store update.
Guess I have supported them enough.
If, and only if the shop will still be run by Intrepid, I will probably buy more stuff, but If I need to give my bank account info to my.com, then this it where it ends.
  • can someone explain me what my.com did wrong that so many people dont want them? never heard of them before

There are several articles out there if you want more in depth overview, but essentially they were/are a greedy Russian outfit that provided no customer service, lax account security, games were almost exclusively p2w ports of asian games. When they were hacked or people had their accounts stolen they basically told them "Suck it up, be real man like Russian bear!" Along with farming/rng mechanics that the people that love to crunch numbers figured out to get the final rewards with using the cash shop would take somewhere to the tune of 10,000 real years without paying them buckets of money, it has left many people angry and bitter. If you mention any negative impression or complain, you are banned from their forums and account deactivated. So they don't provide customer service, but provide almost real-time censorship.

ok this sounds bad, so why AoC pref then my.com, this makes no sense for me
  • Because there were literally no other options out there for them to publish in the EU that were willing to put promises, restrictions, targets, and penalties into an actual contract. There were other publishers in EU, but none were willing to put it in writing according to Steven or wanted to change Ashes to something not intended. If they have changed their ways and do provide what has been promised then no big deal, it they fail to meet their targets, then other options will be explored. So the EU players either got this compromise or nothing, and most would prefer to be able to play rather than not.

It said it's not region locked s ok if you play on an NA server wouldn't that negate the need to go through my.com entirely since they are self published in NA

That's fair enough, it just depends on your willingness to trust intrepid

I am a backer and I can't see where to upgrade to the package with a lifetime subscription.  Not that I'd want to at this point, but I am just curious where it is.

Any package Braver of Worlds and above has lifetime sub. When logged into your account look for the green upgrade button.

we are just searching for a game which will give us pure perfection, and people are willing to pay for it if we finally get a mmo we ever wanted.

to be honest this game is absolutely my last hope for a good mmorpg

Okay I found where to upgrade now, thanks!  Only I'm not sure that I want to drop $500 on this game now, need to see a bit more of the development.  Have they said when the upgrade options will be removed?

Steven has said that when they decide to remove the upgrade option that they will give a few weeks notice before they are removed. They will not be contacting people directly, it would most likely be said in a livestream or posted on Discord and forums, so if you are worried about it, you need to keep up on news.
