Am I the only pvper that enjoys being ganked

I know the title may seem odd to most of you. However I came across an article that's always been a topic of discussion in all pvp mmos. It basically explained a huge penalty for high lvl players killing low lvl players. I for one love when a high level player hunts me down. I am a hardcore pvper and the excitement of me using my wits to figure away out of it gets my inner geek on. Also it helps me learn things faster as a pvper I can use later on. As long as I can teleport ( meaning respawn somewhere else when i die) somewhere if the guy just kills me twenty times over. I really have never cared or minded. For me it is a real life sceniro it's just pvp. My best memories came from high end players or a group on me. Wars have literally started and I hate the idea of players being penalized to severely they will just ignore me. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Also what experiences or adventures did you have as an outcome because of being attacked as a low level player?

EDIT: Yes killing lowbies is bad, yes it is boring and no talent, and all the other negative things we can add on. This has nothing to do with the perspective from a high lvl player (NOTHING). We can all agree as a high lvl player killing lowbies is lame. Yes we have had bad experiences but for those who have good, I am curious.

  • No, and although I don't there are multiple PvP oriented members of the forums that likely feel similar.

If you fight back, they won't be penalized. If they kill you before you can fight back, or you choose not to, they will be penalized. The bigger the level difference the more they will feel it. You should be fine.

In Ashes you will, most likely, not be able to teleport. No fast travel has been confirmed outside of Zones under the influence of a level 6 science node.

Most of these topics end in "there should be less/no penalties for pvp vs. green" and "everything is good as it sounds or should be more intense."
  • ( I am doing this from a phone so this is diffacult) I read an article where a high lvl player will not only become weaker from attacking a low player, his gear drops if he dies. Also he will have a bounty which I do like. But with those odds against him or her. I really do not see them coming after me. As far as teleporting I meant upon death. I just go to another respawn area so he can not camp me.
  • Here is a nice article that explains the process how the developer sees it working.

  • Hardcore PvP player here, I don't participate in hunting low levels nor do I respect those that do. My niche is 1vXing and taking overwhelming odds, outplaying my opposition and properly using my wits and skills.

This was a great article and thank you. So it looks like if I remained flagged at all times low level or not. They really won't be penalized, but if none combatent then yes. What's still not clear is just how
much corruption. To what extent how fast and how much. But this gives me more hope and it's pretty detailed

I look at it as pvp. In real life of survival we do not pick and choose the enemy. The enemey is the enemey. The only thing I do not respect is when it's over and over.  I prefer to have a high level after me. But let's say it is reverse and I am bored no one to fight. I will go after them 3 times max if they are really good. Or one time if I see they really have no chance. There have been times I was under estimated and I killed players twenty lvls  above me. It was just slower to kill them due to there lvl.  If imagine the shock trying to take my pack and they end up running from me. Again I can not express it also can start a full on war. Guilds collectively get together and protect there brethren. Then the other guild comes and then ppl join in and a memory is made. I view life filled with shades of grey not black and white. That can get real boring it just being one way or the other. So if you see me digging some ore ( or whatever) low lvl I don't care if I am a ten. Come at me, it will be fun for me. I also write the names down and hunt those later who do. Probably one of the most fun aspects of pvping is that fear adrenaline of being out classed and trying to survive and even to turn the tables
  • Percentages of how much each flagging state drops of gathered materials, how much corruption you gain due to level disparity, at what level does corruption begin to give a chance of item destroyed/dropped on death, how much stat reduction occurs at what levels are all things they have decided to work out during the alpha and beta testing phases. They will adjust how harsh or soft they are depending on feedback. Since the progress is wiped at the end of testing, people will feel more free to take chances with their testing characters and really let the gankbox be unleashed. Which will give them all the relevant data they need to tweak everything over the next year and half and when they throw the switch on all the shiny new live launch servers people will know what the impact of actions they take will be.

Guess time will tell but it seems a tad less ominous than before. I really the idea that here it is I am the bad guy. But because I am a lvl 20 my magical powers penalize you to such a degree you by pass me. The very nature of pvp risk and adventure goes out the door. I do agree that people can take it way to far and make misery for others. So I am
all for some sort of reprimand just not to an extreme extent. I like that it is progressive and not a full on penalty immediately. So you really have to choose when how and if that person is worth it. Perhaps I should put a big red target on my back and say I dare you lol. Thanks again for the info bro
  • Getting ganked itself is not fun, with corpse camp and all. But what can come from that, that's awesome. Calling a friend to help, now you camp him, he calls friends, and it just escalates into a big battle. I wonder how it'll go with the corruption system, I suppose we'll have to see.

Yes yessss exactly. I have seen more wars started because of a single lowbie more than any other reason. It's always the same. A lowbie gets jumped over and over so he ask in the guild. A few of his friends say heck yes will help. So they come and now the enemy is losing so he calls his friends. So then they call more friends and say we need some help here guys! Now both sides are bringing there guilds. Now a comment in global ( hey there is a war in so and so zone) so then they come. It gets even better because now a guild is kos and politics get involved. So I th sides are watching out for that guild name and it's intense. Time goes on the make a truce to fight another enemy. They join the split again it makes for a economy boom. You need potions mats for things in higher numbers. All because low lvl Timmy got his ass woops mining some cheap Nickle at a local cavern no one cares about
  • Am I just not using the lingo right these days? Has the meaning of corpse camping changed? In games where you would resurrect at the same spot where you died, or had to run back to a place where you died to retrieve your gear before it decayed away this was an issue. Since we know that they plan to have mechanics in place that will port you to a random respawn point in the node it would be extremely difficult for corpse camping to be a thing. Even those that think they are going to be slick and sit on what they think is the respawn point and wait for people to respawn there, all they have to do is make it so you respawn at a different point if killed in proximity to one.

"Not only that, as a corrupt player, if you are dying, you’re not going to spawn at the normal respawn locations. You’ll be respawning randomly in the vicinity and you’ll also be trackable by bounty hunters on the map. Not your exact location but the general vicinity of where you are. So players who want to kill you, do not need to flag in order to kill you. They will stay as a non combatant if they are attacking a corrupt player because essentially at that point you’re like a monster and you don’t flag when you attack monsters."

Yes I am pretty sure you are right ( corpse camping) I am hoping to remain flagged at all times. But the systems in place seem ok. But the idea of state being severely effected directly because of attacking a lowbie is silly. If I read that right. But it may only happen if you killed a lowbie ten times or something. The thing is we really won't know yet. As long as they don't penalize higher lvl players after a few lowbie kills. Let's say 10 kills and then the negative effects kick in
  • I personally don't see the appeal of hunting those weaker than me, and I have no issue taking the exp debt to allow some higher level casual flag on me and take the negative karma. I can see how being the prey and trying to outplay the predator can be fun, but ganking lowbies is casual and requires about as much skill as breathing.

I enjoy combat situations with people of equal skill, or numerous people with equal skill/level, and coming out the victor. That's my bread and butter, I live for it and the salt it brings.
  • I also don't equate my PvP to real life, call me crazy lol.
  • The corruption multiplier for level disparity only kicks in if you do something that causes corruption. So if you are level 50 and attack another level 50 who doesn't fight back for whatever reason and you kill them, you will gain the standard amount of corruption. If you are level 50 and you attack someone level 20 who doesn't fight back and kill them that will have a multiplier to it on the amount gained. If in either case the person fights back, there is no corruption gained. Think of corruption like a point system. Killing someone who doesn't fight back gets you 1000 points. The stat reduction penalty is minimal. You get killed while corrupt and gain a negative exp penalty that is higher than if you had been killed in normal pvp as a combatant or non-combatant. That death wipes out the 1000 points and resets it to 0. You are back to normal after grinding back the negative exp penalty. (which at higher amounts also has a stat penalty). Now say you kill a few people and you rack up 5000 points of corruption.Your stat penalty is much greater, making you easier to kill when someone finds you. When you die, you have a small chance of dropping an item or having it destroyed outright on death. Being killed only wipes a part of the corruption, you may have to die while corrupted a few times to completely clear it. All the while you are gaining negative exp for each death. And for our final you manage to max out corruption. Now when you are killed you have a pretty good chance of losing some gear, the stat penalties are severe enough that you are ineffective in combat, the exp debt load will be huge, requiring hours of grind back to get out of penalty and back to "normal".
Remember, this all depends on you actively killing people who choose not to fight back. Not attack, kill. So you start to beat on someone, they don't react, you now are choosing to kill them or just walk away and find someone else more interested in fighting back.

    TL;DR Corruption is a thing.
  • It's been a common practice in many titles, even OG's like Lineage 2 had similar systems.
  • Xombie said:

I won't call you crazy just meh. Of course it is not real life but the immersion is as much as you allow it to be. Look at it this way ( again I'm the lowbie) the tension, atmosphere, alertness, even sweaty palms is real. I have a predator significantly stronger than me. So what can I do to change the outcome. If all else fails sure I can just quest somewhere else. However that's not always the case and it is not as easy as you make it out to be. I mean this depends on the type of player of course, but I can promise I won't go down easy. I have on more occasions turned the tables. But let's say I'm wrong full bs whatever. The fact remains nothing as I said before had caused more drama and wars than that single factor. You only see the negative aspect of it. It has such potential to make amazing events to happen that never would have as I discussed above. I have made characters that stayed at lvl 30 and farm just praying a high lvl comes after me. My thinking is, if I am good at a low lvl vs high. When I am a high lvl I am real good and that is normally the case. I always see one side of the story and no one speaking out on the reverse. So I was curious to see and that's my view on it

I will most of the time right back so this is a win for me. I just hope it does not discourage high lvl players. Honestly that atmosphere of immersion and risk is one of the key factors that drives me to pvp.

There are those that like to rack up their kill ratio.
Then there are those that love to fight and test their metal against challenging opponents.

The PvP penalties only come into play outside unquestionable PvP scenarios and if you pick on someone that doesn't want to fight, or doesnt have the skill or stats to fight back.....an easy target.

Whose idea of ganking do you mean ? If ganking means risk free combat....then I am against it.

    eg.
    1. Stealth is so OP 1 shotting peole is a thing -Ganking is bad.
    2. Stealth can two shot so you wait until the target is sufficiently weakened by others before you effectively one shot them without risk.
    3. You ambush a spawn area known to be full of weak sauce players...so you can effectively one shot them or they offer little to no resistance.
    4. You gangbang spawn areas to ensure anyone that spawns is outgunned and a certain risk free kill.

You see the common theme here. Its not combat because the other side isnt even in the fight. But if by ganking you mean the ability to ambush someone but they still get to defend themselves. Then yes I love ganking too. Especially if they have the opportunity to waste resources buffing up before entering an environment that looks decidedly risky....and reduce the damage of being taken by surprise.

  • Oh yes very clearly.
And I find myself asking....is this person genuine or a griefer trying to justify their actions and make griefing acceptable by the back door.
So my response was highly qualified for a potentially leading question.
  • I thought this too, there seems to be a lot of emphasis put on the desire to allow high level PvP versus low level characters. In the end however the OP decided all was chill since they can just remain flagged.

Also, symptoms sound like those of an adrenaline junkie that broke both legs and has to stay inside. Otherwise, real world hobbies like bungee-cord jumping, hang gliding, parachuting, etc., might be an interest worth checking out.

I don't think a K/D ratio of scrub kills is worth the corruption or the time. If anything it's only enjoyable for the player being hunted to overcome overwhelming odds in combat or escape, but to prey upon the weak to feel superior is as casual as it gets.

same here men  the first game i got ganked was aion haha, but it was also nice. later on when i was a general asmodian, i walked to ingission, and after 10-20 min, the elyos came with 20-50 ppl to hunt me (general rank, for general godstone quest (killing 3 generals) ) this was crazy and huge, but i loved it! really missed the open world pvp in all the years in mmo's. Arena is really boring

If it was leading I would suppose there would be some validity in your response. However it is 100 percent genuine and it is how I feel about it. The best experiences and memories for me came from the very fact a high lvl or a multitude of players came for me. I get it, it is not something you see very often. So can understand perhaps this is all bs. But noway for me to prove it. So I was more overly curious if I was the only one, or others like me. Somehow this evolved into defining and explaining my intent.

Now the better question is do i attack low level players as a high lvl player. Yes and no, it depends on how incredible bored i am and i can not find anyone to kill. Even when i find someone low level, if the first kill is way to easy I am done. however if I find them cunning and elusive my max is three and no more unless they ask me to stop. I also do feel there are others like me who exists but we are not vocal. So I figured i would be the voice of reason and tell my side. Honestly nothing gets my adrenaline and risk more excited than that, I had a few characters I deliberately kept in the 30's for that very reason.

I legitimately loled at this. Um just no, I am terrified of heights. I do however get a rush out witting and defeating high lvl players. Not saying I am like some uber pvper but I have on good deal of occasions turned the tide. Also as I have stated so often, generally epic wars come from them.
