If you want to distract people in combat, wear heavy plate armor in day-glow pink and green, and have polished chrome accents that reflect light to blind folks. Then they will be both distracted, and have trouble even looking at you, and at the same time have full protection.

"Oops my boobs are falling out" is a terrible strategy.

The developers aren't avoiding sexy armor skins, but they do want to do it tastefully. She won't see the level of sexualized armor you often get from Korean MMO's with the chain bikini heavy armor, but she can most likely count on having sexier light and medium armor that shows more skin and is form-fitting. If you look some of the cosmetics sets I think you can see that they are looking to provide options for as many preferences on each end of this spectrum as they can.

Being too conservative in this area is just as bad as having over the top and exploitative armor skins, and many female players find sexy empowering and exciting. You can also have form fitting and feminine heavy armor, without making it expose any skin.

    No, just no what?
If guys want to droll over their sexy female characters let them. If girls feel empowered let them.

Bikini armors look silly, but going all tactical about it is stupid. You mean to tell me that the robes that mages wear wont get pierced and slashed the same way that the bikini will?
That the high heels are not proper protection but the sandals are?

Btw... why isolate a few lines from a logical post to discredit?

Here is the bottom of the line:
A game with pornographic armors that aim to attract players for sexy characters, is laughable.
Demanding that all female characters (made both by guys and girls) should look like Brienne of Tarth is even more so.

Its possible to make realistic armor that accentuates the female form to some extent. It might not always be practical and emphasizing breasts too much could be detrimental, but it didn't stop real men from making giant cod pieces or muscle armor in history, so why should it stop women in fantasy?

I fail to see how disagreeing with “being half naked and sexy is empowering” means wanting every character to look like they’re covered in ten layers of clothes. So far Intrepid’s take on cosmetically appealing armor has been pretty good going from one sex to the other, and they’ve all been aesthetically pleasing in their own ways.

Pleasing to look at =/= showing as much skin and cleavage as you’d see at hooters

Though I won’t lie and pretend I don’t get a kick out of the players who put the “battle bikini” armor onto their hefty and bearded male characters. That makes my day when my tank is a big burly man in a bright cyan “sexy” costume.
  • What if I want to play a Conan the Barbarian-esque character? Will there be armor to make my guy shirtless, with oiled abs?

Being shirtless means not wearing armor. The game will not force you to wear appropriate gear, but you may struggle in combat.

I've never understood the desire for strictly real world design for armor in a fantasy game, sure bikini armor on a hulking tank doesn't make any sense because it goes beyond the ability to suspend disbelief, but boob plate isn't much of a stretch.

Oh I agree 100% but I just find it fun to have the two in the same sentence

I mean there is a line. Yeah it's a fantasy world, so you are already flipping things around to make some new reality, but i find throwing in some realism make the fantasy world much more relatable.

I find that there are plenty of ways the breastplate can be defining around the breast area without being overly sexual

I'll give a few examples based on class that still have a feminine element, without being too sexual.

Man I love all of the designs @Amist posted. And I can see a male alteration on all of those happening pretty easily by simply changing the chest area to be flatter. Except maybe the cleric one, but that you'd just need to increase the length of the bottom otherwise you could leave it as it is even the little boob window thing could show off the male chest.

From those pictures though the biggest things I see to make them look realistic and "feminine" are accessories, coloration, or "flowy objects" like the back cape on the fighter, cape on the ranger, and shoulder cape thing on the bard and summoner. Like if you took away all those belts and corset thing on the rouge she'd just be wearing a grey shirt and grey pants, which might be cool for the increasing armor shows increasing power or whatever. Like the more powerful that set of armor is the more belts you get until you just turn into a belt.

The tank one also makes good use of coloration because that one the boob plating seems the most obvious and kind of weird out of all the pictures but still semi-works with the material of the armor I guess. But the little bit of purple added gives that "pretty" feel

The other thing I noticed is they all either wear high boots with a noticeable visual gap between them and the shirt region or long socks, which personally always been a fan of either of those designs. (sue me, I like what I like ;) )

I do find it funny that out of all the classes the cleric one is, in my opinion, the most sexualized looking one ahahaha

The cleric image is verging on “holy hooker” territory, but it’s not too bad. To me that doesn’t go as far as being exploitative. I like it.

Xena was kicking ass throughout the 90s, but I guess she wasnt wearing a realistic armor in order to be mentioned?

She wore a leather corset, miniskirt, and stripper boots. She's not the most egregious example of "sexy over functional" but that's not an outfit meant to prioritize defense.

To be fair, I've watched enough of that show to know that she fought with a very acrobatic style that would probably be hindered by heavier armor and/or armor that covered her up more. Her gear is fine for a "female rogue" type. Though there is no reason to show off that much skin between the neck and breasts aside from being able to flash cleavage, that is probably the worst thing about it.

But again, I'm not a Xena hater and her outfit was fine IMO.

I'm glad you like them! I was actually quite surprised to find out that there weren't a whole lot of 'non-sexy' pieces for the cleric cause I really did search for a good while :D

One part of this that could be ingame (and that I've tweeted about to AOC Support, which doesn't disagree with it) is a wrap-cross halter, which i think would seem best as a Rogue's chest slot item.

Love how every time someone asks for attractive (or “hot”) sets for female characters, all those who oppose the idea start screeching “bikini armor no good!”. Like, do you people realize those of us (male or female) who want our female characters to look hot DON’T literally mean wearing bikinis. I mean for crying out loud is that all you can come up with?

Let’s take Tera for example. Pretty sure many people are thinking of that game when making their argument against good-looking feminine clothing options. I’m personally not a fan of the clothing or armors of that game.
I really liked a lot of the sets in Black Desert. There were many female armor/clothing choices that were very covered up and many that were very revealing, one or two that are even a bit much for my taste but never a bikini made of chain mail or any other material. Not everyone wants to play a character that’s covered in big heavy plate armor like a medieval knight. Some people actually do like to be fashionable in a game and sometimes that means some cloth or light armor sets could get away with being revealing. Even if it’s just a cash shop cosmetic rather than actual earn-able armor.

TLDR: quit whining about “bikini plate?! omg keep the bikinis away from my game!?”. We want hot armor, not literal bikini armor. Though I assume underwear and swimsuits will be a thing for the RP-ers. (No not THAT kind of RP).

References for what we *actually* want when we ask for this stuff:

I"m not sure if this is a reply to my armor idea, but in case it is, it wasn't entirely out of just wanting to see it, there's also the functionality to think of. If a wrap-cross top does get added to the game, it would be best for agility stats due to how simple it is.

This thread is actually something that I have seen be an issue in New World as well, but it's even worse over there. They basically went so far down the gender neutral route they over-corrected and now literally everyone in the game looks like a dude until you do a very, very close up look of their faces. From the Cosmetic sets we see and a few of the models we have been shown I don't see ashes making the same mistake... as much. I understand the refusal to over-sexualize women in our fantasy game, that's fine they want to keep things from being sexual.
There is however a difference between feminine charm and lustful over-sexualization and I hope that we can strike a balance without going down the stupid route New World has chosen.
