Will Dwarf designs get beefier and wider?

The most recent preview of dwarves I can remember in AoC was of those weird Gnomish dwarves. Any idea of their design will get more beefier and "wider"? Ngl, the current dwarves look very lacking for a dwarf

OK someone requested me to post this strawpoll here, vote what you want for the dwarves:

I'm gonna hope ppl will want changes xP

    I hope so.

I like for example the Dwarfs on wow, they are the perfect example of what a dwarf need to be.

Well for wow at least. Their body is weirdly proportioned compared to normal.
Better example are probably Warhammer and D&D

I think Ashes Dwarves are unlikely to get much wider, but...
The Ashes Dwarves look like irl little people with dwarfism.
Gnomes - at least D&D Gnomes - look like irl little people without dwarfism.

A dwarf with more chest than belly is very weird.

Wow and Lotr dwarfs are spot on; big noses and round barrel bodies.
  • I personally would like to seem them Happier, and with their mouth more open.

I am partial to Warhammer dwarfs. It's not really a big deal to me if they go with more slender dwarves in AOC, but the stockiness of the WH dwarfs are just pretty badass. A dwarf should look like a boulder with legs coming at you. Move out of the way or get toppled like a bowling pin.
I'd want the same comparable width and weight on the women too of course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYhDCrhoC2c

    This concept art is perfect.
How did this scale get lost as seen here?

What happened? The dwarfs are almost a whole "head" shorter looking.

Huh yeah they shrunk compared to the concept art.
  • those are two female dwarves that is the only thing I can think of.

Here is one with a male dwarf. Even with the dwarf in the foreground he looks a little smaller than the concept art proportions.

I have to agree that the current dwarfs are a little small for my taste. If it was like, just the females like lineage2, and they were trying to be cute I would understand. These male dwarfs are a little lacking...

This is the image my brain musters when someone says dwarf.

Those look like giants to me; not dwarves.
I think the Ashes female dwarves I've seen so far in concept art do not have wasp waists.

TBH I would take the "Moral Cowards" route for female dwarfs. While it is funny for female dwarfs to look like male dwarfs. I think the joke gets old really fast, and you are left with a old joke explaining why female dwarfs look stupid for the life of your franchise.

That is pretty much spot on design for AoC I would want to see.

warhammer do dwarfs perfectly and aoc should take inspiration from them. WH dwarf males are pretty damn bulky..as it should be, it wouldn't make much sense if they were physically thinner and weaker looking than the other races..i mean they're an elder race that has spent their entire ancestry doing hard labour like mining, forging ect and fending off all of the urk scum that try to come for their hoard ..that's the reason they are the way they are and i see no reason why the dunir should be any different. it's important that they get this right for me as i'm a huge dwarf fan..that said if they remain in a similar state to as they are now at launch i'm probably going to roll a human lol and for the ppl that know me that is saying a hell of a lot.

the ideal size imo - they don't have to be like this exactly but something similar..should do them justice.

Yes 100% agreed on both posts. Stereotypical or not, the bulky dwarves are so iconic and cool that it's a sin not to design them lack that

Sounds like you should probably play the Warhammer MMORPG.

i have and it was a great experience! no harm done by it if AoC took a little inspiration from them here and there..as all games do!
  • Not sure if both dwarf types are supposed to necessarily be the same kind of Dwarves from other fantasy games. There is the possibility that one of the Dwarves are supposed to be more like gnomes and the other like iconic Dwarves. I don't necessarily hate them that much.

I would probably use Lord of the Rings as a basis over WoW because in Warcraft Dwarves aren't even the same race as they are in DnD and Lord of the Rings. Dwarves of Warcraft attune with elements and are like half elemental as oppose to the other versions. So you can only use them as a loose reference at best.

I like all these depictions of Dwarves, but I don't have any preconception of what to expect from this game specifically either.

In WoW, Dwarves were constructs turned mortal by curse of flesh, so not really.

As for LOTR, they would still be bulky like generally they are in fantasy

You are half right. You forgot the fact that there are Earth Dwarves, Wind Dwarves, and Fire Dwarves though.

Its the creative direction of the dwarves which makes me understand why they haven't shown tulnar yet. If they can't get dwarves right what hope is there for the tulnar?

Good points. The dwarves do look a bit like squashed humans instead of wide and thick bodied beasts. They might revisit with enough feedback

not so, manling! still a long way to go and much to see..they could also change their minds on a few things :)

Highly unlikely they are going to make that significant of a change in the models they have already created.
If Steven wanted Warhammer style Dwarves, he would have adopted that during the concept art phase.
