Really? I have been playing MMOs since 1999 and I think the most fun combat system I have ever played in was Tera. Sure, the rest of the game was lackluster, but the combat was great!
Aion was a Tab Targeting and it had fluent and good combat.
It just that both system or even a hybrid system can be good and its personal preference if you like it or not discussing it won’t change that.

GW2 system is decent, I am just not a fan of their classes or their mechanics. I enjoyed Aion combat, until I got to the flying combat. Quit and never looked back after that. lol

I'm 48. Getting that out there, right now. I cut my teeth on shooters, and trust me, as often the only female in a LAN party with a bunch of guys, I got killed a LOT. I can understand your belief that "skill pvp" is a requirement -- because you only conceive of the game as being a PVP game. Trust me, as you age, you won't just "grow out" of gaming, and your reflexes WILL slow down. Happens to the best of us; I can even give you a timeline of how it all comes together.
What's the point of all this? Simple. Some of us still love gaming and will likely game as long as we have fingers to mash buttons and eyes to see. But as we age, we would like options that let us play on our level, not just on your level.
That's why I'm excited for AoC; they seem to be building something that can be enjoyed by everyone -- youngling and oldster alike.
Just keep us old folk in mind when you start thinking that a game should only meet on demographic, k? Thanks!
No, tab targeting allows us to make our lives a bit easier. I'm sure there will be hot-selecting targeting as well.

Tab targeting is only "easier" when there's a couple of enemies around you. Once there are more than 2-3 enemies in your vicinity, say in siege PvP (confirmed to be in AoC), it actually becomes a hindrance more than anything.
Let's say I want to target the player in front of me, who is in a group of 10 players. I hit tab, and it targets someone other than him. Great, ok, so now I start spamming the tab button until the correct target is finally highlighted. Oh fuck, I hit tab once too many and lost the right target, guess I'm back to spamming tab to re-target him...
Or, I'm forced to left click my target, which is sometimes nearly impossible to do out of a crowd, not to mention that I am unable to both turn my camera while left clicking (since holding RMB to turn the camera disables the mouse cursor, in most tab-target games.)
Neither of these situations are ideal. A skill-based targeting system with minor ("last inch") aim assist is far superior. A minor aim assist helps those who lack pinpoint accuracy, while those who can aim accurately don't have to suffer through a clumsy, archaic, and frustrating system of lock-on targeting. For those interested to see a "last inch" aim assist in action, I recommend checking out Smite, a 3rd person action MOBA.
Furthermore, skill-based targeting opens up gameplay options otherwise unavailable to the player. For example, skill-based targeting allows tanks to body block, where they literally stand in the way of projectiles heading for their squishier teammates.
at the same time, tab targetting won't be so bad. but an issue with wow, TESO and the like, is you press a number on a hot key. there's no skill in that at all. TESO has lost the plot in their direction currently, and wow was so bad i didn't even make it past level 2. pretty sure i uninstalled that game.
i like bdo's style of combat, but having a locked on target could be useful, maybe even make it where at a certain level that feature is no longer available? i'm really more interested on ensuring we don't scream up to level 50 in 4 hours of game play only to hit a wall and take 3 days to get to 51. that's a feature on bdo and is very very annoying. i hate grinds.... lol
I am okay with tab targeting it certainly won’t be foreign to me but BDO, ESO action combat was fun as hell, perhaps the best part of both games. It’s early yet, we’ll see.
[quote quote=5040]Things can always change but as of now it’s tab target.
To me, the sad thing is it seems like they know tab target is a step back. They don’t mention it at all in the “About the game” section and when ask about it they seem to be quick to add the ‘but’ part to it.
I’m eager to learn more about the mobility and positioning part.

Who decide that tap-taget is a "step back" ? That is just wrong in so many levels to say something like that.
You say this because some new MMO's are doing it without tap-targeting. But that does not make tap-targeting a step back.
For myself, I won't play it if it wasn't tap-target. I just like it more that way. And yes, I have played BDO, TERA etc... I keep on getting back to games like Final Fantasy XIV and WoW. (not wow anymore though) :P ...
But stop being so negative. We still know so little about the game, that we far from it can make any conclusion.
For one, I'am a PVE player, and took a few steps back when I heard about the PVP. But I'am still optimistic, and hope both PVE and PVP can work together instead of against each other (As Steve said in a stream as well).
Regards.
I think they had an idea for hybridization anyway, so it should be interesting, to say the least.
Look forward to seeing their attempt at innovation.

If this game goes for any kind of action combat bs, I'm not going to waste my time on it. ACTION COMBAT IS BORING!!!!!!!!!!! It's 2017 and action combat has not worked yet. WE WANT TAB TARGETING PLS. I hope you stick to your decision. If not, a lot of people will change their plans for playing this game. I guess Pantheon is the next choice on the list. Anyone that likes action combat is not a smart person. It's not fun!!!!!!!!!!
To start with, this game is going to be compared to wow because it has the same monthly cost and it provides tab target combat. Maybe they will show us some completely different for combat then what wow has but i have not seen it yet. If this game gets compared to wow, it’s probably going to lose. No matter what wow will always have that 16+ years of development time advantage.

Another kid thinking WoW was the father of MMO's, the father of tab target, the father of God!
I really love tab target on every game i played with including FFXI, AION, LOTRO, FFXIV, etc. They are all great games with a lot of fun in the combat department.
Another issue if I was managing my company is that the majority of my staff come from a tab targeting MMO background. Some have FPS experience but doesn't look like anyone has experience putting that into MMO format. So I could use my staff at what they are amazing at and let them find new ways to make the system great....or go into a much more blind path of making a full action combat MMO and hope for the best. I feel like they are making the correct choice.
A lot are saying "If it's gonna be tap-target I'am out"....
But still.... They are in here as a registered user. Plus, the game have said in many streams, and somewhere in the FAQ list, that it is tap-targeting / -with placement-abilities aspect as well.
Why are you even here?
Many won't play the game because of tap-target? You are wrong!
With over 100k registered user so far (oh well, some of them are tap-target haters ;) ), + what they have archive so far in the kickstarter, shows otherwise.
Beside that, you can't compair a game like ArcheAge, Revelation online, Black & Soul, TERA etc... etc... to this game.
The games are P2W more or less, and is a korean-look-alike game with one passion online Cash-crapping.
Ofcouse devs goal is to earn some cash by making a game like this, but google cash-crapping as a word in the game industri, and you know this game is far from these games.
We should even stop compair games to each other, some aspect are bad, some are great... all comes to an subjective opinion.

Agree, it is a stupid statement.
GW2, WoW and FFXIV - All tap-taget MMO-games. These 3 have the top 3 most played games / Subscribers (B2P for GW2).

Many won’t play a tab target MMO? Seriously? Okay, looks at WoW, huh, yeah not many playing that game.

I'm curious though, what is the highest ranking for a full action MMO...might break top 5?
