Any kinda of crowd control or team support classes that aren't healers are my go to, followed by tanks :)

A bonus if the class is unpopular because it's considered weak. I'm slightly masochistic and enjoy proving other people wrong :)
Hence why I'll be a Dwarf bard regardless of how the racials work. Well said.
Me and you know what we like xD
  • For myself the first round is not for the classes, it's to get a feel for how the races feel.

Then when I've got that, probably cleric, I doubt I'd get far enough for second professions though before checking out some of the others....

A minimum of an hour on each should be enough for me to rule out which ones appeal least.....

After that....who knows, I hope to have a long life, it'd be nice if ashes will give me enough time to try everything!

Though I also hope that before I get that far, there'll be more races and classes as well.

I always try the melee class. There is something about being right up on someone that thrills me. Watching them repeatedly try to flee as I slow them and stick close, closing the gap quickly every time they get too far...

(Out of context, this makes me sound like some super creep. Ew.)
I don't think it's possible to sound creepy in that shiny armor :sunglasses:

Usually I would start off with Ranger or Mage. Anything ranged really, since I dont do so well with Melee :|  LOL

Haha, I'm quite superficial when it comes to race as well. It has to suit my idea of the character, even if it comes at a slight disadvantage, I'll make it work.

If there were no Dwarves I probably would take greater heed of what racials we'll have but since the Dwarf is available I'll make it work as you say. I just hope Intrepid don't make the mistake Zenimax did and made racials game breaking at the top end, especially for DPS and PvE/PvP in general.
  • I always play ranged classes.

When I play RPGs, I play whatever provides the best stealth.
    In tabletop, that's Rogue.
In MMORPGs, that has typically been Druid.
In Ashes, I'm expecting to be a Predator.

Oh yeah! ranged stealth is ALWAYS my first option in any single player RPG.

And pick lock/hacking type skills. I feel bad leaving locked doors and chest behind. I must know what's behind them doors.

Ok then i I see any red dots im walking the other way
  • I'm usually into full heal classes - Cleric/Cleric is most likely gonna be the type of class I'm lookin for in Ashes :p

However, I'll certainly try Bard and Summoner too .. especially Summoner sounds fun depending on the type of pet one will be able to use
  • My main has always been and will always be a Warlock with a pet and just AIDS you down or burst you down:D Warlock for lyfe!

So, I'm guessing Summoner for you then?

I don't really have one 'go to' class that I play first in most games, I have decided to played classes purely on flavor though. I played Tree of Eternity with the goal of 'spear wielder' from the start for example.

In Ashes I'm thinking I will go summoner.
  • I always roll healer and tank classes first.  Once I am established there I will probably roll a DPS.  Current plans are:

    Vek Cleric/Summoner, Dunir Tank/Tank, Tulnar Rogue/Fighter
  • Any class that focuses on magic... magic... MAAAGGIICCC!

I want to see if bard/summoner = instant orchestra

You have to be an Orc bard to become a true Orchestra.

As for my class go-to, I prefer hybrid classes that can perform multiple tasks, be it in different specs or at the same time. I also gravitate heavily towards ranged classes and healer/support archetypes, so I'll probably try Cleric/Something first. Also I feel a strong need to actually feel the "class fantasy", so I try to play a class that has a "story" I can resonate with.

    Haha. Right!
My Bartle Score is Explorer 87% Killer 0%.
I am much more likely to want to open every door and chest than kill every mob.

In Ashes, Rogues get the most utility skills, so I'm quite eager to learn what that list will entail.
  • <--- Usually Something, something Big Sword or Archer.
  • If my Sig doesn'tgive it away my go to playstyle is ranged mobile.  Ranger/Archer always seems to be the best at this.  @Krojak it looks like we are polar opposites in play style. It will be interesting how the balance will be.

Assassins! :D nothing more to say
  • The first class I will try in the Alpha is the Mage. My final decision will depend on the quickness of the playstyle because I want to make a fast-pased burst build. The mage skills have interruptable cast times which sounds really bad for PvP.

My other option would be either Fighter or Rogue. But in that case I would want Mage or Cleric as second arch-type to have at least some magic capabilities in my build.

Tank/Cleric also sounds like a strong combination as long as the dmg output is decent enough. There's no point in surviving if you cannot kill the one thats attacking you.
  • I'm usually playing healer.
In this game though I will want to explore, so I'll need to be a bit more DSP-able. I think I'll go for a hybrid of some kind. If I'm seriously raiding at any point, I'll go back for full healer.

Classes I'm most interested are Cleric - Bard - Ranger.
  • Of course this depends on the classes available, but...  I like to pick ranged characters first, then move to melee, then support.
  • Etiher a Meele Tank or a Damage Mage ^^
  • I love Hunters/ranged, then mages, but since Wow there was not good hunters in other mmos so i start play barbarians. most of them had windwirls or that kind of stuff. its great when you spin around and kill everything on yours way.
  • I usually always go for the mage class. Love being the lethal destruction machine hiding behind a protective tank. Then scream and run my butt off if an enemy comes too close..
  • I typically start out with classes/builds that are unlike what other games have, because I like to see what each game is doing to attempt originality in class/ability design.

Overall, I tend to gravitate towards support/heals + melee DPS, but have been known to enjoy tanking and ranged DPS as well.
  • I usually try out ALL classes and delete them after a few levels, just to feel which one suits me.
I almost always start with mage/cleric classes because I rarely end up playing melee.
  • I always play tank at the first time :).

  • Assassin.. but after I get 1 shot by monsters I take mage or any other magic class
