Good point there, but in my case, I complain about max lvl content being the only thing enjoyable in the game. Usually leveling up is a mean to enjoy the game, which you do at max lvl, and I hope IS makes leveling up nearly as much enjoyable as max lvl content.

How do you get 45 days of meaningful gameplay with leveling?

“How you get 45 days of meaningful gameplay?” is the question you’re actually asking. And the answer is simple

Step one: Stop thinking of gameplay before max lvl as a chore

Step two: Actually put forth some effort to get into the world lore, read the quests, experience the game.

The fault here stems entirely from people thinking of quests as a hassle to overcome, instead of part of the game. The game can’t fix a faulty mindset.

    What this guy said.
  • I have played alot of ESO and runescape in the past. Old days of runescape, I would play the same character forever and never be "maxed". I loved that. ESO on the other hand, I can get some XP scrolls and go hit max level in 2-3 days. Issue with this is unless your friend gives you good stuff or it's your 2nd char, you are stupid at the game still amd will die in most end game content. A few months to max level sounds ok to me, as long as real progress doesnt stop after max level.

So not to start arguments or drama but healthy discussion. I couldn't find a post about it so if this is a repeat post my apologies. With the current estimate being 45 days at 4 to 6 hours played per day, do you think this is too long or too short for leveling adventure class to max? My personal opinion is I would like to see 45 days increased to 60. We don't know however if node levels will cause in game natural throttles against the pace makers leaving them with few to no quests until nodes catch up a bit. Thoughts and opinions please and thank you!

No level cap is best for me :)

The internet is full of private servers of games trying to recreate the old days that were taken from us. Lineage 2, FFXI, Star Wars Galaxies, EQ1... These games all have a common theme where you have to "no life" the game to get anywhere. You can find a 1x server for all of them. That tells me that the hunger is there in others, not just me. There are people out there that like to grind. Slow and steady progress everyday over months and months. Only to make it to a cut throat social end game. That is what I want.

keep it 45 days, but create a server upon release of beta 2 that features a 14 day Speedleveling contest.

The Winners of this speed leveling contest get a set of unique cosmetics + title. The devs use the data from this test to nerf the abuseable leveling methods

I mean... this idea doesn't suck.

@Caeryl said very well, but the thing is: you don't do leveling, you play the different stuff the game shows you, stuff in which you can choose the path you prefer, if you just love the combat, go grind, but if you want to play some shaddy religious stuff within the thieves guild, like a good single player rpg mixed with events with people doing similar stuff, you can do it too.

There are hella paths, all different, choose the one you prefer, grinding brainless won't be a thing.

(Level up will make you think instead of just killing boars).
  • Way too long. Time and time again it is shown that the majority of people quit before max level if it takes too long. Then there is no one to do things with and the game suffers greatly. But of course this community wants it to take longer and make this game doa.

Side note, for all the people who complain about end game at max level being too important, explain how you go about fixing that without destroying the entire concept of leveling.

If anyone quits the game, screw him. Max level should be dificult, very dificult, that way it adds a lot of value when someone is in fact, very high lvl.

    IT SHOULD BE HARDER
  • Time to level to max level is great if the lower levels have some relevancy or they are just gatekeeping from the actual game. So if leveling is a separate thing in the game not connected to any other area then it is already way too long. However if leveling is connected to the other parts of the game like opening raids, developing nodes, crafting, gathering etc then it would be perfectly ok to have it take even more time

And does any of that stuff actually matter before max level? Because if all of that stuff is giving some sort of xp great, if not its really not important at all.

that's the whole concept behind the game. It is planned to matter

I like this Idea a lot. Except beta is probably too late to fix major loopholes. A2 would be preferable to test this.

    Or B1

    @Liniker @Roko

B2 was just an example. End of A2/Start of B1 would be perfectly fine.
Maybe even make a Round 2, at the Start of B2 to see whether the fixed you applied between B1 and B2 fixed all/most of the loopholes.

Speed leveling events would not only be a great publicity stunt, but they also tend to be a lot of fun for the people participating. + you can fix unintended loopholes of course.

This is what open development should be all about.

You want to make the game for people like you, CASUALS.

People like hard feats, difficulty and overcoming, and YES, people like farming things that seem imposible. People like to see a max lvl and say wtf! this guy is a nerd god.

And you my friend, are a casual.

I wouldn't mind if it was longer. I think alot of people miss out on the fact that there won't be level zones. As in where you finish this zone and go to the next one. That is part of the beauty if this system. You get tired of questing in the forest well, go on to the desert and find some new thing to discover. Plus with the nodes real time leveling and spawning new content you may hardly ever have to leave your initial starting zone, but I do hope the itch to explore the world hits everyone and they do venture forth and make new discoveries.

  • I've actually thought about this question for a day or two since my original post and it occurred to me no one has actually asked the correct followup question........."Once I reach max level is there anything for me to do?" If the answer to that is roll an alt then there's a problem. One of CoH's biggest initial shortcomings was exactly that, there was no end game so if you weren't interested in making lots of alts then you were pretty much finished. This should not be a game like Dragon Age or Skyrim where you reach the end of the story and then move on.

Many seem put off by the phrase, "The real game doesn't begin until you hit max level" but the reality is, that's actually a true statement for most games. You've spent all this time creating, molding, outfitting and becoming attached to your character so now you want to be challenged as an experienced player. The road to reach max level can still be fun (and I hope it is) but that's basically training.

So if the answer to my question is, there is no real end game, then the leveling time is way too short imho.

Very true, If the game after max lvl is filled with things to do (as it should be) then we can discuss better how much time it can take to reach it.

I would like to play for years on the same character, maybe some expansion will make max lvl 60+ 70+ 80+ etc... But I still believe it should be on the grindy side.

Ashes has no 'End Game Content'. It is designed for 'Persistent Content'.

Excuse me sir, but wtf, who the fuck are you to make that difference? Steven wants everyone in the game, from casual to ultra hardcore. And say that the game should be difficult because of the awe we would have seeing a maxlvl is completely fucked up. A game should be enjoyable by itself, people play UNO (card game) because it's fun, and Steven wants Ashes to be fun, not to be some bs for stupid people who only wants to show the mere mortals how much time he wasted grinding some useless shit.

People should invest his time (even all if you want) in something fun, not only for bragging. And yes, Ashes is for casuals and hardcores, so stop saying bullshit in the forum.

I don't understand what you exactly mean by being important, but I will try to answer anyway.
Remembering that there's no max lvl content, you just happen to be higher or lower lvlwise, all that content gaves you exp, involves in different ways the people of all lvls and also matters for the node/s. So yes, it's important for everyone, for the node, your character and for all the characters involved in one way or another.

The lvling process should be as enjoyable as end game content if not even more enjoyable. So if it is like that it should take around 90 days of 4/5hrs a day
